Itinerary
Start Time: 7:00 AM | Pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza
Begin your journey with an early morning pickup from your hotel, followed by a comfortable drive in a private air-conditioned vehicle to the coastal city of Alexandria, located approximately 220 kilometers north of Cairo. You'll arrive around 10:00 AM, ready to immerse yourself in the rich history and Mediterranean charm of Egypt’s second-largest city.
Your first stop is Kom El-Dikka, home to Alexandria’s Roman Theater. Once a prosperous residential area, this site later evolved into a vibrant civic center featuring a bath complex, lecture halls, and the amphitheater itself. Today, Kom El-Dikka stands as the most extensive and well-preserved archaeological site above ground in the city. Its remnants of Roman villas, colorful mosaics, and public buildings offer a fascinating glimpse into daily life in ancient Roman Egypt.
Next, descend into the mysterious Catacombs of Kom El-Shoqafa, a remarkable blend of Pharaonic tradition and Greco-Roman design. This subterranean necropolis is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Middle Ages and includes an astonishing mix of tombs, statues, and funerary art that reflect the multicultural spirit of ancient Alexandria.
Continue your exploration with a visit to the modern Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a tribute to the legendary Great Library of antiquity. This architectural marvel is more than just a library—it’s a cultural complex dedicated to learning, dialogue, and discovery, just as its ancient predecessor was in its prime.
Then, head to the Citadel of Qaitbay, a majestic fortress perched on the Mediterranean coast. Built in the 15th century by Sultan Qaitbay on the ruins of the fabled Lighthouse of Alexandria, this fortress once guarded the city against sea-borne invasions and now stands as a symbol of Alexandria’s enduring strength.
Finally, you’ll visit the stunning Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi Mosque, one of Alexandria’s most beloved landmarks. Named after the revered 13th-century Sufi saint buried within its grounds, the mosque is a serene and spiritual stop, with its elegant domes and ornate architecture reflecting centuries of Islamic heritage.
As the day winds down, you’ll begin the journey back to Cairo, with drop-off at your hotel in the evening.
